| The History of Beach Fest What the heck is "Beach Fest"?? How did this fun weekend get started? Why do we have tickets to use at pool side?? Where did the tiki bar idea come from???? At the May 2005 membership meeting ideas were being thrown out for a yearly event to benefit the resort. There were many great ideas - one was to have a "Beach Fest" that would bring in lots of DJ's and Beach Bands all weekend. Another was to have a "tiki bar" where members could donate their time and the liquor to make their favorite drink and serve it for one hour. "Beach Fest Event" was added to the calendar on the first weekend in August, but as the year went by we knew that the cost and logistics of having many bands was not going to work and the idea was dropped. In July we realized that the event was still on the calendar and people were expecting something to happen!!! So, we threw two ideas together and came up with a plan!! We decided to have a couple of DJ's - some great pool side music - lots of pool side games - a dunk tank and a tiki bar with drinks donated by members who were willing to volunteer an hour -- and Beach Fest was born. We had a volunteer "Ticket Fairy", who sold tickets. The tickets were to be used at the store, for games and for the drinks at the tiki bar. This allowed people to make donations to the General Building Fund of White Tail Resort and to receive some fun things in return as a way of showing our gratitude for your generosity. This one weekend a year has been set aside as a donation event for the betterment of the Resort. Just look around and you will see many things purchased with Beach Fest donations. For example, the big blue awnings at the pool, gazebos by the paddleball and Petanque courts and the handicap lift at both pools. We are now going into our 6th annual Beach Fest and we thank you for your patience, your continued support and your generosity. Your Beach Fest Committee |
